GUINNESS launches three limited-edition designs of GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout, inspired by Malaysia’s diverse mix of cultures, people and environments
7 December 2017, Kuala Lumpur – GUINNESS is celebrating the rich blend of cultures, people and environments that makes Malaysia unique with a series of three limited-edition designs of GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout. The designs, which are exclusive to Malaysia, take inspiration from the art, language, and cultural traditions of many of Malaysia’s communities, coming together to represent a land which is more than the sum of its parts.
Peranakan tile motifs, henna designs and traditional Bornean fabric patterns sweep across the iconic black of the bottles and cans, with the golden GUINNESS harp standing proud in the centre. Vivid hues of red, blue and yellow leap out from the darkness, the bright colours highlighting the vibrancy of our individual and shared culture.
Each of the three limited-edition designs is fronted by an animal which is iconic to GUINNESS in Malaysia – the bulldog, the sea turtle and the hornbill – and which represents the diversity of environments making up our homeland. They also embody elements of the Malaysian character which are common to all of us: strength and persistance, goodness and dedication, and boldness and spirit.
GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout first arrived on what our shores almost a century ago, and quickly became a local favourite. Despite the stouts Irish origins, it soon assumed a more Malaysian identity, and was known as ‘Hak Gau Peh’ in the Chinese community – owing to the iconic bulldog on the label.
“Malaysia is a land unlike any other. It is truly more than the sum of its parts – our diverse mix of cultures, traditions and languages have combined to create a sense of identity which transcends our differences. This diversity, the contrasts and connections, are what we want to celebrate with our limited-edition designs on GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout.” said Julie Kuan, Senior Brand Manager –GUINNESS and Diageo Brands.
