16 January 2015– Wave 3 of the Entrepreneurs For Good programme, a partnership between Arthur Guinness Projects and British Council aimed at helping budding social entrepreneurs, was launched in Malaysia. The programme had seen social entrepreneurs – those who build businesses to actively improve the lives of their communities – receive mentoring, training, and financial support up to the value of RM360,000.
Now in its third year, Entrepreneurs For Good has so far helped a total of 13 social enterprises across Peninsular and East Malaysia. Previous awardees have been able to effect change in areas as diverse as environmental awareness, healthy eating, poverty alleviation, and the protection of traditional crafts and skills.
Throughout the month of January, GUINNESS® and British Council hosted a series of roadshows featuring talks and workshops for aspiring and established social entrepreneurs and NGOs interested in learning about the social enterprise model and how to apply it to their own operations.
Nick Larkworthy, Marketing Manager of Guinness Malaysia, hailed the launch of Wave 3 of the successful programme.
“We have a proud history of supporting social change at GUINNESS®, beginning with the actions of Arthur Guinness and his family. Arthur was a man Made of More, very much ahead of his time, who strove to improve the quality of life of his workers, their families, and the wider community.
With Entrepreneurs For Good, our joint venture with British Council, we seek to continue this tradition of philanthropy, supporting and rewarding those who make the bold decision to start businesses not for profit, but to better the lives of those around them.”
Speaking at the roadshows was luminaries from various industries, including Kal Joffres from social movement group, Tandemic, Chan Ehon from social entrepreneurship group, MaGIC, and alumni from previous years of the Entrepreneurs For Good programme.
